Mistakes Are Gifts

In improv, with new information being generated at every second and the agents in charge of that information (us the improvisers) being inherently flawed (being human), it is nearly impossible to proceed without making some mistakes along the way. These mistakes are gifts. A mistake is an opportunity for those on stage. It is a new thing to play with.

Improvisors make mistakes and fail – we do it a lot. But, by failing gracefully and meeting a mistake as an opportunity and trying to find the fun in the situation we are able to get to new places and surprise and delight ourselves with where we end up.

In my work, I look at unexpected circumstances, things not going as I expected and failures (mistakes) as opportunities to learn and grow. I know that I can accomplish great things by taking risks, going into uncharted territory and figuring it out along the way. I meet difficulties I encounter head on, learn from them and keep my head held up high. I know I'll make mistakes and I'm up for the challenge.
